SUBJECT: Residents For Responders April Monthly Newsletter
April Newsletter - First Edition
Hello Resident For Responders!
As a supporter of Residents For Responders, we want to communicate with you some items about and around the Spring Valley Police Department (SVPD) that you might not be aware of and would be interested in knowing.
We also want to make sure you know how much we appreciate your financial support which has and will allow us to do all we do for the Officers and Staff of the SVPD.
Recognizing April Anniversaries
This past week we were able to recognize and thank 3 officers and 2 dispatchers who have April anniversaries with the SVPD.
Sgt. Trent Wood - 14 years
Officer Antonio Rendon - 5 years
Officer Nathan Hale - 2 years
Dispatcher - Angela Delgado - 1 year
Dispatcher - Brittny Comello - 1 year
Recognizing a Life Saver!
While we were at the police department, Chief Schulze took us all down to dispatch to award TCO (Telecommunications Officer) Michael Marquez, who has been with SVPD less than a year and is new to this line of work, with an award as a Silent Hero from the Texas chapter of the National Emergency Number Association for his work with a suicide caller from outside of Spring Valley who was planning to commit suicide. He called the SVPD non-emergency line.
Michael calmly walked the caller through his situation and stayed on the phone with him for about 30 minutes until his exact whereabouts could be established and HPD could get positioned outside his apartment. Michael was able to talk him into walking outside, without the weapon, so HPD could assist him with getting the care he needed.
Michael Marquez saved a life that night and protected the HPD officers. Very few outside the department would know about this had we not been able to attend that presentation. Just another reason to be proud of our SVPD.
Officer of the Quarter
If you haven't been to the website lately, we have a new Officer of the Quarter – Officer Michael Yanez. Please visit the site and learn a bit about Officer Yanez.
Safety Reminder
As a reminder, lock your car doors during the day and at night. Don’t leave valuables in sight. Most car break-ins are because the doors were unlocked and it was a crime of opportunity where the thief went through the interior. We are in the safest community in Harris County, in the midst of the worst crime in Harris County’s history, but criminals don’t respect boundaries and sometimes they get in Spring Valley and Hilshire Village.
If you see something unusual or concerning, call the SVPD non-emergency line at 713-465-8323. Obviously, if it is an emergency call 911.
Help Us Spread the Word
As always, we would appreciate your spreading the word about Residents For Responders to your friends and neighbors.
