Recognizing May Anniversary & Officer of the Quarter
This week we recognized and thanked Debbie Gonzalez for her 20+ years in Dispatch. She is a supervisor who has also been recognized as a Staff member of the Quarter.
Additionally, we recognized and thanked Officer Michael Yanez as our Officer of the Quarter. You can read more about Officer Yanez on our homepage.
Additionally, in honor of National Police Week, we have provided Tiff's Treats and will be providing dinner for both shifts Saturday evening as a Thank You.
Continued Recognition for a Life Saver!
Last month we mentioned that TCO (Telecommunications Officer) Michael Marquez, who has been with SVPD less than a year and is new to this line of work, was awarded a Silent Hero from the Texas chapter of the National Emergency Number Association for his work with a suicide caller from outside of Spring Valley who was planning to commit suicide. He had called the SVPD non-emergency line and spoke with Marquez.
He has since been recognized as a 2023 Silent Hero during the Greater Harris County 911 Board meeting.
Just one more reason to be proud of our police department and the officers and staff!
Pictured are TCO Marquez and Chief Mark Schulze.
Our Police Department At Work
On May 14, Spring Valley Officers were called to the Spec’s parking lot, 8400 Katy Frwy, in reference to a motor vehicle accident.
Upon arrival officers learned that the offending vehicle had fled the scene after the crash without providing any information to the victim whose vehicle sustained damage. The victim described the striking vehicle to be a white newer model SUV.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage that covers most of the area in the Spec's complex and saw the fleeing vehicle was captured on video but the license plate was not visible. The rear window had two distinctive stickers, and utilizing the Flock System (License Plate Recognition Technology) investigators searched for the fleeing vehicle. Due to the 2 stickers investigators were able to search Flock and locate the vehicle. The Flock photo captured the rear license plate and investigators were able to locate and speak with the owner of the vehicle regarding the accident.
The registered owner stated that his daughter had driven the vehicle and accepted responsibility.
This is a great example of the investigative work our SVPD officers can and will do to solve a crime. Kudos to Det. Sgt. Carlos Menchaca for leading this investigation.
